number six

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. lost its position as the world's most competitive economy to Switzerland as budget and trade deficits prompted a slide to sixth in the World Economic Forum's annual rankings.
From Bloomberg

Sadly, not surprising. This is the result six years of economic policy set by people who think that supply-side economics is capitalism and anything else is godless socialism.

Re: number six

The United States remains in the leading position in competitiveness, ahead of Germany and Finland. The United States’ strength is greatest in the business environment, including domestic rivalry (rank 1 on “intensity of local competition” and “effectiveness of antitrust policy”), financial markets (rank 1 on “venture capital availability,” “local equity market access,” and “financial market sophistication”), and innovative capacity (rank 1 on “university/industry research collaboration,”“company R&D spending,”“local availability of specialized research and training services,” and “quality of scientific research institutions”). didn't know if u got to read the whole report. its not exactly all bad news.

Re: number six

I read the whole article. It it were just bad news, or was somehow suspect; I wouldn't post it. What I find disappointing are the phrases like "The country's overall competitiveness was also undermined by increasing doubts about the effectiveness and trustworthiness of its political leaders"
