The belief that algorithms can not be racist hinges on the idea that racism is an identity, not a set of actions or beliefs.
I never would have begun my own conversations without first experiencing clear and passionate outrage to what I believed from those I interacted with. Now is the time for me to pass on that outrage by clearly and unremittingly denouncing the people who used a wave of white anger to take the White House.
>Whites who currently live in Southern counties that had high shares of slaves population in 1860 are less likely to identify as Democrat, more likely to oppose affirmative action policies, and more likely to express racial resentment toward blacks
But if you suggest racism is still a problem, or that it is a problem in the parts of the country that are southern, older and more republican you are accused of as race baiting.
Following speeches from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Michele Bachmann, CPAC is hosting the panel "The Failure of Multiculturalism: How the pursuit of diversity is weakening the American Identity" with Peter Brimelow, the founder and head of VDARE.com. VDARE is a White Nationalist website, run by Brimelow, which frequently publishes the works of anti-Semitic and racist writers.
Another one of those isolated incidents. Overt racism is now allowed at CPAC. The wiliness to excuse this has now become part of the conservative movement.
This is dangerously close to guilt by association. There is no reason to list some guy who posted to a Yahoo Group as a Ron Paul supporter. But there are some interesting connections between Paul and the fringes of hard right politics.
The PPP polled Mississippi and found a very interesting response about marriage. 46% of these hardcore Republican voters believe interracial marriage should be illegal, while 40% think it should be legal.
I think this is a case of racists tending to the GOP rather than republicans being racists.
TPM has obtained some of the threatening and racist emails that that voter registration group down in Houston received after being targeted by one Texas Tea Party group for alleged “voter fraud.” It’s about as ugly as you would expect: “The WAR is coming and we are going to dispose of each and every one of you while we take OUR (White) nation back.”
Wow, who could have guess that race war wing nuts would have found a home in the tea party? When you hear them talking about taking the country back, you really should be asking from whom?
